Wonderful product. "Instantly" puts all "instant oatmeal" (except McCann's) products in the trash heap. It does take 30 minutes to cook, but following the directions on the can (4 cups water, 1 cup oats) this makes four breakfasts (just under 1 cup of cooked oats each) for me; it might make 5 for smaller appetites.

Steel Cut Oats are less processed than rolled oats or quick oats. Yes, it does take longer to cook, but the texture is much better.

I have used this as oatmeal (porridge) and in muffins, with excellent results.

If you follow the cooking directions, in my opinion, you have wallpaper paste. Cut the cooking time from 30 minutes to 20 minutes, and it is much better - a little chewy, but that's how I like it! Breakfast takes more planning now, since it's a longer cooking time than my old brand - but good taste and worth it.

We were introduced to McCANN's oatmeal a few years ago by close friends. We were able to find it locally in a few stores near where we live. However the these few stores gradually became fewer until the product was no longer available to us. This left us with the internet as the only option for obtaining this product. I have been having Quaker Oatmeal for yesrs until trying this today! The texture and the taste are completely different from the pressed oat. It worths cooking for half hour. My son love it at the first bite! My 8-month-old baby is also love it! I uaually cook the portion which will be enough for 2~3 days. Drop one spoon or two into the worm milk every morning to make my breakfast much more healthier! This one is so good that it will be hard for me to go back to pressed oatmeal.....

I have enjoyed this oatmeal for the last four weeks. I had been eating another name brand sugar free oatmeal each morning. The oatmeal is creamy...and improves with a few minutes of "soaking" results in a healthy, fulfilling snack or breakfast. Highly recommended. I eat mine with a little splenda and some extra cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Last year I became diabetic. I learned a lot about eating right, but I never had time for breakfast. I'm a manager in an upscale market and I had noticed McCanns oatmeal had this instant made with splenda. I think this oatmeal has a great taste and I don't need to add anything to it. It's quick, so i can pop this in the microwave as my 12 grain toast is in the toaster.

I know this is a little pricey for outmeal, but it's better than what I would normaly eat!

Perhaps my taste buds are out-of-whack . . . while this oatmeal looks like oatmeal in the bowl, after adding hot water, it mixes into more of an oatmeal paste rather than retaining the individual oatmeal pieces -- rather gummy. For me, the taste is quite bland; to enlighten the flavor, I added one teaspoon of Splenda and a dash of cinnamon. It's OK -- I'll finish the box, but most likely will not reorder. Hope this was helpful.

McCann's Irish oatmeal is great. I love their Apples and Cinnamon variety most of all, but the fruit flavored variety comes in a close second. It's just good all the way around. Great flavor, consistency, and a very healthy alternative to greasy foods. They have the right amount of sweetness: not too sweet like some other brands. If you want a tasty breakfast and want to eat on the healthy side, you could do much, much worse.

I've tried both the sugar-free and regular versions of the maple flavor and I can tell the difference. The good news is that the sugar-free one isn't a bad option for those who are watching their sugar-intake. If you've never tried this oatmeal, do it soon! If you really like oatmeal, you'll never want to eat another brand. We used to get at Trader Joe's but they discontinued it. McCann's Instant Oatmeal is so fluffy and soft with the right body and texture plus it's so easy to prepare. My son and daughter love McCanns's! When we were having trouble getting it locally, I bought a famous store brand of flavored oatmeal. The kids both hated it! They like the natural flavor of McCann's and the courser consistency. I prefer to buy the larger boxes of plain McCann's, but the kids really enjoy the flavored single-serving packs .

My family is extremely picky, but everyone loves this stuff so much we've actually subscribed for delivery! Tastes much better than Quaker, and the consistency is wonderfully creamy, as though you'd literally added a drop of real cream. McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal is delicious. But when it arrived the product packaging was so worn/crushed and labeling taped over, that they would not even stand up individually on the shelf. Since it was ordered through Amazon, the disppointment in the condition of the packaging was a surprise. But the good quality of the product was exactly what you expect through Amazon.

I like this oatmeal. It isn't mushy, it has a nice crunch. It's good for you and many stars eat this, as in Rachel Ray's back pages of what is in stars refrigerators.

My family loves this oatmeal. It is easier to make than you think, and it is so yummy, especially with some brown sugar sprinkled on. mmm! Sometimes, my 14 yr old will make a bowl of it for a snack and as soon as my 21 month old sees what he has, he'll go climbing into his lap begging for some from him. It is that good!

I use my electric rice cooker to make the McCann's steel cut oats. I just add raisins or currents set it and go out for a walk or jog. Its done in about 50 minutes. You can make it as wet or dry as you wish by regulating water or milk. By using electric cooker you don't have to watch it on stove which takes about 35 minutes from the boil.

This oatmeal is the best money can buy. Take a while to cook, but well worth it. Nutty taste and crunchy to the pallet. Highly recommended.

I bought this kind of quick cooking McCann's for my mother who likes the idea of five minutes in the microwave then to table. I really don't see a whole lot of difference in this and the 30 minute oatmeal. The taste and texture are almost identical. Not as rich and nutty tasting as the 30 minute variety but very close. I prefer the 30 minute kind myself, but this made mom very happy, so I am very happy. My family and I are sold on steel cut oats now. We just don't like the other kind anymore.
I am now familiar with both the Quick and Easy and regular steel cut oats, the variation is nice, both are excellent, I make large batches and refrigerate, and reheat in the microwave, so cooking time is not so much of concern, but the quick and easy is my favorite. For me there will be no more rolled oats, these oats, when served with milk and sugar, are a very tasty and healthy meal.

My partner introduced me to this a few years ago. This oatmeal tastes way better than Quaker Oats, and cooks quickly. It has a great texture, not at all like wallpaper paste, and tastes good even without additives.

When we're going to have a really long morning, we substitute soy milk for the water and add a little brown sugar. It keeps us going for hours.

The "add water" packeted hot cereals are unfit for use as glue. Steel cut oats, a great thing, require cooking worthy of a breakfast turducken. Between are the varied offerings of pastries and cold cereal with characters (I like Cap'n Crunch, the Cap'n, not so much the cereal) or the healthy items if unexciting to the eye from Trader Joe's.

This oatmeal has fed my 3 kids and myself every morning for the past 2-3 weeks. It is GREAT stuff. We like ours cooked with milk rather than water and with a little brown sugar added after taking it out of the microwave.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Once over the age of fifty, pants are to be worn up to the chestline, and
oatmeal is a necessary part of one's diet. Not so with McCann's steel cut
oatmeal. It should be a staple of diets for the young and old. The slow
cooking (25 minutes), kind tastes better than the rapid instant variety,
plus sets the tempo of the day, punctuating the virtue of patience has its
reward.
For weeks I tried to persuade Jewel to continue replenishing the slow cook
McCann Oatmeal, to no avail. Inadvertantly I discovered this product might be procured through Amazon.Com at a significantly better price. Be-
cause I eat this stuff faithfully I put the purchase on a regular schedule
for a further saving. All in all I claim to be satisfied with McCann. As
to the art work on the container, which was a one time expense, it has no
rival. I get the oatmeal in a box then pour that into the cool looking
can. Good stuff!

Love this stuff
I've always wanted to like hot cereal -- I've tried all kinds on many occasions (grits, rolled oats, wheat, etc.). Unfortunately, I've never been able to get past the texture . . . until now. I picked this up at my local health food store and fell in love at first bite. We've not tried the overnight method of preparation. I bought a non-stick saucepan with a lid and cook it at low heat for about 40 minutes; with the non-stick finish, it only requires stirring once or twice in that time. My husband and I have been eating it for breakfast 4-6 days a week for almost a year now.

mighty fine
I eat oats with some regularity (pun intended). The rolled oats are fine when I'm in a hurry. When there is time, steel cut is the way to go. These McCann's oats are pretty good. When I have a lot of time, I use Alton Brown's overnight oatmeal recipe as a starting point. My recipe is basically a cup of oats, 3 cups water, a 1 cup milk, and a cup or two of dried fruity stuff if any is handy. It goes into a crock pot and cooks overnight. I cook mine on medium.

Next time I order oats I'm going to try out Steel Cut Oats Pinhead Oatmeal - Bulk 50 Pound Bag. The price is too good.

not sure if I would order again
I was impressed with the product the only concern I had was the experation date. I would like to see that the experation date was not so close to the date I purchased it. Not sure if I would order this again simply for this reason.

Hardy Morning Goodness!
I've always enjoyed oatmeal for breakfast, but when I purchased my Sanyo Rice Cooker, it had a porridge setting, so I bought McCann's Steel Cut Oatmeal to try it out. So much more flavorful than regular oatmeal!

McCann's has rough cut bits of whole oats that cook into a hardy bowl of goodness that really stays with you through the morning. Very satisfying. I'll be keeping this on hand from now on!
